2008 Sustainable Community Awards


Winner for Large Community Category

The City of Albuquerque, New Mexico in being honored for its ALBUQUERQUEGREEN initiative. ALBUQUERQUEGREEN is a comprehensive sustainability plan designed to provide Albuquerque residents a better quality of life now and in the future through energy conservation, the development and adoption of leading edge conservation technologies, transportation, clean energy production, the use of clean energy resources, water conservation and sustainable economic development.

Winner for Midsize Community

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce was honored for establishing the Foundation for a Sustainable Community with a mission to invest business and community resources to promote and advance environmental stewardship, social equity and economic prosperity.

Winner for Small Community

The City of Kingsport, Tennessee, was honored for the Kingsport Economic Summit which was a catalyst for the resurgence of this community.  The Summit led to training and workforce development programs, promoting an entrepreneurial spirit, and other creative solutions to promote the sustainability of the city.
