Quarterly Health and Wellness Working Group Member Meeting

The Business Civic Leadership Center is hosting our next quarterly health and wellness working group member meeting on January 18th from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the US Chamber headquarters (1615 H Street NW).

The agenda will include a presentation by HP CareerNet followed by an open discussion with the audience. Topics include:

Wounded Marine and Cigna CEO to Tackle 13.1 Together

Marine Corps Lance Corporal Matias Ferreira, age 22 and an Atlanta native, lost both of his legs 11 months ago while serving in Afghanistan. His recovery took place at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, just outside of Washington, D.C. Now LCpl Ferreira walks -- and runs -- on prosthetic legs. This year he ran the Army Ten-Miler and Navy Five-Miler on those legs, and today Ferreira is 18 days away from tackling yet another running feat -- the Walt Disney World© Half Marathon in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

As many on the east coast live through the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, and wait to see whether another hurricane will grace the shores of the United States, we again turn our attention to the devastating flooding, especially inland flooding, that can occur.  Flooding can be as destructive, or more so, than wind.  Flood waters have run rampant through the southern half of Vermont, upstate New York, and New Jersey, while taking their toll in other states, as well.
